Humanist ceremonies are proving to be a really popular choice in Northern Ireland.
More and more couples are seeking an alternative to a traditional ceremony and want one that reflects their values and personalities.
A Humanist wedding allows you to get married where you want, how you want and when you want.
And to top it all off, they're fully legal! (Woohoo!)
You can choose every aspect of your ceremony, from the readings and poems that are used, to the way in which you exchange your vows.
The ceremony can be as formal or relaxed as you want and family, friends and pets are all most welcome to get involved!!
If a legal wedding isn't your thing, we can collaborate to create a ceremony that affirms your commitment to one another, without the legalities.
Some people like to refer to this type of ceremony as a 'Commitment Ceremony' or a 'Vow renewal.'
Every couple is different so it's important that you plan a ceremony that reflects your style and personality!
I cannot wait to hear your plans!! LET'S DO THIS!!!
Please reach us at ciara.turley@humanistceremonies.org.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Once we get a proper chat on the phone or zoom, and you've decided to book me as your celebrant, (Woop!) we'll arrange to meet for a good chat, otherwise known as a 'planning meeting!'
You'll tell me all about yourselves and about how, in a world of approximately eight billion people, you two just happened to find each other!
We'll discuss your ideas for the ceremony, things you want to include, and things you ABSOLUTELY don't! I'll offer advice and suggestions of elements to consider, and collaboratively, we'll start piecing together the bones of your ceremony!
There will be plenty more chats, DMs, Whatsapps etc, and once complete, you will have the opportunity to read and/or edit the script until it's PERFECT!
Getting to know you is such an essential part of my role and it's this personal approach that will make such a difference on the day of your wedding.
Amidst all of your nerves and anticipation, seeing that familiar face of mine will instantly make you feel calm and at ease.
It really will feel like a friend is marrying you.
In a word, yes!
Humanist weddings gained legal recognition in Northern Ireland in 2018 and therefore, you need to make an application to the General Register Office of Northern Ireland.
This costs £44 per couple and two GRO446 forms need to be completed and signed by both the couple and the celebrant.
There is an administration fee of £40, which is payable to Humanists UK (registered Charity
A Humanist celebrant does not simply, 'turn up on the day and marry you.' Oh no, no, noooo!!!!
The bulk of my work, as your celebrant, is in the months BEFORE your actual ceremony!
It's alatta latta planning, meeting, gathering information, planning , chatting, and some more planning,.....until I FINALLY have all that I need to draft your bespoke ceremony script.
Once drafted, the script is then sent to you for your approval.
You then have the opportunity to make any changes that you want until you're totally satisfied!
My fee, therefore, reflects the amount of time and work that I invest and dedicate to perfecting your wedding script!
I am also responsible for registering your marriage and initiating all of the legal paperwork.
On the day of your wedding, I will arrive one hour early to liaise with any other vendors who are involved in the ceremony(photographers/music, etc)

Absolutely not! Our ceremonies are for everyone, regardless of what they may or may not believe. All of your guests will be encouraged to relax, get comfortable and enjoy the ceremony!
As a Humanist celebrant, I do not read or conduct any religious components in your ceremony.
However, it is YOUR day, so if there is a religious element that you or a family member would like to include yourselves, this is totally fine!
By choosing a Humanist wedding ceremony, you're not only going to have the most magical and personal wedding ceremony ever, but you will also be supporting the Humanists UK charity to fund education programmes to make our society a more inclusive place!
Now, isn't that a nice feeling! :)
